Kristyna Myles has signed a £2m record deal after spending seven years busking but still performs on the streets.
The singer-songwriter from Leceister has signed a five album deal with Universal after being spotted by music executive Perry Hughes on Manchester’s Market Street. She decided to start her career busking rather than in talent contests and it has certainly paid off.
Kristyna started busking on the streets of Manchester at age 20 when studying music at Salford University. In 2005 she also won Radio 5 Live Busker of the Year Award.
Despite landing a major record contract Kristyna is still performing on the streets as she is embarking on a 10,000 mile musical marathon busking around the UK, in an attempt to raise £250,000 for the young homeless peoples’ charity Centrepoint. She launched this tour in Soho last Wednesday.
Centrepoint’s Chris Gerrard said: “It is a rare thing for an artist signed to a major label to immediately wish to embark on such a major fund raising event.”
Kristyna told the Daily Mail “Performing is what comes most naturally to me, busking has been amazing. I love getting that buzz off of people when they hear what you can do. When you’re performing in a concert you know people have come to see you but on the street you can just be ignored, I did have kids throw sweets at me but I also had some great compliments too.”
